Prime Minister John Howard has again endorsed Australia embracing nuclear power but says taking other countries' waste is an absolute no-no The Wilderness Society said a deal for Australia to join an exclusive global nuclear club would ensure Australia became the dumping ground for the world's nuclear waste. Fairfax newspapers reported today that Australia was negotiating with the US to join a global nuclear energy partnership aimed at restricting the number of countries able to process uranium. Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said nothing had been signed in regard to proposed partnership - the negotiations had been instigated by the US, not by Australia. But whatever happened, said Howard, Australia would not take the nuclear waste of other countries. "We've made that clear, we're not taking other people's waste," Howard said.
