PROPOSALS to create a world nuclear waste dump in Australia will be debated at this weekend's Liberal Party conference.

John Howard faces a push at the party's federal council for debates on a nuclear waste dump and to allow families to claim tax deductions for nannies and childcare costs.

The federal Liberal women's committee is leading a campaign to embrace nuclear power, encouraging the Prime Minister to expand the nuclear industry to include a worldwide nuclear waste store in the outback.

In motions to be debated at the conference, the women's committee urges talks on a nuclear waste dump, saying Australia has "geotechnically stable and remote areas to offer". They also back tax breaks for nannies, childcare and employers who offer childcare to staff. Despite the Prime Minister and Peter Costello vetoing the tax reform because it would favour the wealthy, the women's wing is pushing for a debate in the election lead-up.
