The Wilderness Society has called on the Federal Government to reject the nomination of Muckaty Station near Tennant Creek as a nuclear waste dump.

"A nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station will expose the local community and environment to dangerous radioactive waste for thousands of years" Alec Marr, Campaigns Director at TWS said.

"No compensation package can make up for the kind of damage that a nuclear waste dump will bring."

"The flawed process used to select Muckaty Creek is just part of the Federal Government’s agenda to turn Australia into a world-wide nuclear waste dump because there is money to be made by their mates like Hugh Morgan."

"The Government is planning to introduce legislation soon that will remove restrictions on nuclear power plants and a other toxic nuclear developments," Imogen Zethoven, Nuclear Campaign Coordinator at TWS said.

"Australians do not want our country turned into the world's nuclear waste dump, but this nomination brings us a step closer to that reality."
