Anti-nuclear campaigner heckles Gillard

ABC NT Local News

Newly elected Labor deputy Julia Gillard has been heckled over her party's nuclear policy while meeting and greeting voters at Darwin's largest shopping centre.

Ms Gillard got a cautious but warm reception from those shoppers willing to be distracted from the pre-Christmas rush.

But she refused to answer any questions from anti-nuclear campaigner Justin Tutty.

Mr Tutty wanted to know whether a federal Labor government would put a nuclear waste dump in the Northern Territory.

Ms Gillard's staff quietly moved Mr Tutty aside.

Ms Gillard is in Darwin as part of a 10-day national tour to drum up support for the new Labor leadership team.

She will fly to Melbourne this afternoon.
