Senator Trish Crossin says site assessment began at Fishers Ridge last week despite Senator Scullion's assurances the radioactive dump is going on Aboriginal land in the northern region.

"The five person assessment team spent two days at Fishers Ridge last week are expected to return in about a month to begin test drilling and a fauna survey" Senator Crossin said.

"It seems Fishers Ridge is still on the Federal Government's agenda for a possible waste dump regardless of the regular flooding of the site or Senator Scullion betting a beer that none of the sites on Defence land would be selected.

"Obviously the Federal Government is ignoring his prediction and going ahead with the assessments of all the three sites it originally nominated.

"I doubt the government is just going through the motions so it could well be that Senator Scullion's championing of the site on Muckaty land trust 120 kilometres north of Tennant Creek is coming unstuck" Senator Crossin said.
