Chief Minister Clare Martin and Environment Minister Marion Scrymgour will support a change to the three mine uranium policy at today’s ALP National Conference.

"I think every mine should be judged on its merits – and that’s why I’ll be supporting the change," Ms Martin said.

"Mining and associated development is very important to the Territory economy."

Minister Scrymgour who will speak at today’s debate and has a uranium mine in her electorate will make a case for change.

"I used to oppose uranium mining, but during today’s debate I’ll explain why I’ve changed my mind, and why the party should as well" Ms Scrymgour said.

"Uranium mines which are subject to strict environmental controls and are done in consultation with the local community can bring big benefits, including jobs."

The debate over industrial relations will be another important issue at the Conference.

"I'll be supporting Kevin Rudd’s push for a system which encourages business and is fair to employees and employers," Ms Martin said.
