Rio says mining operations resume at Ranger

Rio Tinto-owned Energy Resources of Australia has restarted mining operations at Ranger in the Northern Territory, Rio Tinto's spokesman says.
Uranium mining at the mine was halted on Friday due to cyclone Helen, which threatened to flood the operations.
"Everything is back to normal at Ranger," the spokesman said. "It was a bit of a non-event."
Rio Tinto holds a 68 per cent stake in ERA, which is the world's third largest uranium producer providing 10 per cent of the global uranium production.
The mine produced 3,859 tonnes of uranium in the first nine months of 2007. In 2006, Ranger was the second largest producing mine in the western world with an output of 4,026 tonnes.
