Future uranium mine may affect Finke Desert Race
One of the companies involved in a uranium exploration project south of Alice Springs says the Finke Desert Race could be disrupted by a future mine on the site.
The Angela and Pamela exploration licence covers a stretch of the Finke track between Roe Creek and Ewaninga.
The companies that hold the lease say a mine is unlikely to open on the deposit until 2014.
Cameco regional director Jennifer Parks says they will have to see whether the race will be affected.
"We're aware that the Finke track goes right over the eastern end of our exploration licence and it's near where the uranium comes to the surface, so we'll have to be looking at that, that's correct," she said.
"Whether the track gets diverted depends on the nature of the ultimate mine. Maybe it won't impact on it. We really don't know at this stage, but it is very close."
