CLC defends uranium deposit consultation
ABC NT Local News
The Central Land Council (CLC) says it has made every effort to consult all traditional landowners over the Angela-Pamela uranium deposit south of Alice Springs.
About 20 environmentalists and traditional owners gathered outside a uranium conference in Alice Springs yesterday, protesting against the development of mining at the site.
Local woman Janet Liddle-Edwards says the CLC has left traditional owners out of the negotiating process.
The CLC has issued a response saying all traditional owners identified through the Native Title Act are being consulted and given both sides of the uranium debate.
The CLC says it is important to realise the Native Title Act does not provide a right to 'veto' the grant of an exploration licence.
