Ramsey supports nuclear dump

Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has said he would support a nuclear waste dump in Roxby Downs, if an independent scientific panel suggested it.
Mr Ramsey spoke to the Roxby Downs Sun in response to comments from Northern Territory chief minister Paul Henderson, who cited a 1997 report suggesting that Roxby would be the best site.
"I'm not suggesting there be a nuclear site at Roxby Downs," Mr Ramsey said.
"We do need one in Australia … it should go where a panel of independent scientists say it should go."
Mr Ramsey said that facilities like hospitals were currently having to store low-level nuclear waste in basements all over the country.
"None of them have a facility to store it," he said.
"We should at least have a place to have it all together where it can be looked after."
Town administrator Bill Boehm was not available for comment.
