Alice locals unhappy with uranium mining plan

There have been more than 200 objections to a major uranium exploration proposal near Alice Springs.
Earlier this year, Cameco and Paladin received the right to apply for a license to explore the Angela and Pamela deposits, 25 kilometres south of the town.
But Adele Pedder, from the Australian Conservation Foundation, says the project is too risky.
"The costs and the risks far outweigh any short term benefits," she says.
"We see in other uranium mines around Australia that they have to manage the tailings on the site for 10,000 years - that's how long we're talking about these impacts on the environment and public health."
