Cameco Australia to explore prospects

The Star Phoenix

The Cameco Corp.-Paladin Energy Ltd. joint-venture in Australia's Northern Territory has received an exploration licence to explore an area containing two uranium prospects, Pamela and Angela, near the community of Alice Springs.

Drilling on the Angela deposit is expected to begin in 2009 after the companies receive all necessary approvals.

Cameco Australia, which is the operator of the exploration phase of the projects, says significant work was done on the properties in the 1970s and 1980s, but it will take several more years to determine whether to apply to the government to mine them.

"This includes environmental, engineering and feasibility studies," said Cameco Australia's Jennifer Parks. "We will work closely with the community and traditional owners to seek their input and keep them informed every step of the way."
