Uranium exploration success for Compass Resources
ABC NT Local News
The mining company Compass Resources says it has had some initial success exploring for uranium at Batchelor, south of Darwin.
The company has just produced the first 50 tonnes of pure copper from its Browns Oxide project and expects to produce the first cobalt and nickel by the end of the year.
Managing director Richard Swan says the company has not made any decision about future uranium exploration in the region.
"We are still in the early stages of exploration for uranium. We have had some intersections in the area but at this stage there are no plans to carry out a serious study into uranium mining or to proceed into uranium mining," he said.
