Resources Minister says he wasn't aware of traditional owners visit
The federal Resources Minister says he wasn't aware a group of 40 traditional owners had travelled from Muckaty, in the Northern Territory, to Melbourne to see him.
The group wanted to present their concerns about a possible nuclear waste dump on their land, 100 kilometres north of Tennant Creek.
A spokesman for the Minister says Mr Ferguson was never asked to meet with the traditional owners.
One of the four shortlisted sites for a dump is Muckaty Station where five clan groups live.
The Minister's office says the Ngapa clan had previously indicated their support for a dump, but one Ngapa man says not all clan members gave their approval.
The Minister says a report recommending the best dump site in the Territory will be released before the end of this year.
The Federal Government is considering changes to a law passed by the previous Howard Government which forces such a dump on the Territory.
