Groups fear uranium drilling environmental impact
Alice Springs environment groups say they are concerned about new uranium drilling in a conservation reserve south of the town.
Mining explorer Deep Yellow is expected to begin drilling today in the Owen Springs Reserve 70 kilometres south of Alice Springs.
The reserve is a pastoral lease managed by Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife.
Jimmy Cocking from the Arid Lands Environment Centre says he is worried about the impact on the flora and fauna of the reserve.
"There's also quite a lot of data-deficient and threatened plants that grow within the Owen Springs Reserve and we'd be looking for more information on where the exploration is about to commence and whether or not that is going to have any impacts on the threatened species," he said.
