Our rich resources on show for world
THE Territory's rich resources were on show at one of the world's top four mining expos yesterday.
Up to 15,000 people from across the globe explored 300 exhibits at the China Mining Congress and Expo in Beijing.
Resources Minister Kon Vatskalis, along with representatives from the NT Resources Council, Energy Metals, Emmerson Resources, Territory Uranium and TNG Ltd, spoke at the congress to promote mineral exploration investment opportunities of the NT.
Mr Vatskalis was impressed at the expo's size and said it would put the NT on the map.
"We need to get out of the Territory to promote the Territory," he said.
"The NT is rich in resources and minerals from iron ore to uranium and ... we need to encourage these companies to come and see ... how big it is and what is has to offer."
Mr Vatskalis said face-to-face relations were important and proof of this was when he met with leading Chinese mining investors China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC) earlier in the day.
"This is a company listed number 400 out of the 500 largest companies in the world (according to the Fraser Institute) and, while they do business with WA, they admitted they had no idea about the Territory, where it is or what it has to offer," Mr Vatskalis said.
"After just a few minutes they were extremely interested and wanted to know more."
Mr Vatskalis said it was promising the company would now seek investments in the NT.
The Expo provides a channel for mining companies to communicate and exchange new ideas on development, investment policies, mining rights trading, exploration, technology and equipment, mining evaluation and consultancy, and sustainable development aspect.
