With all the turmoil in the mining game it pays to be flexible with your skills.
Former miner Dave McCormack has left an traineeship on a Queensland mine to move to the small community of Aileron, about an hour north of Alice Springs, to dish up beers and burgers in partnership with his twin brother.
With rich deposits of rare earths and uranium nearby, many are banking on a mining boom.
Dave is expecting the miners to be hungry for some good tucker and is excited about the prospects for the area.
"I think its going to be bloody great...we've been given the opportunity to get in to the mining game and its going to be a lot of fun"
He thinks his experience working on mines will help in the new venture.
"I know what the boys like to eat and i'll be serving up some good tucker...all healthy choice stuff."
As well as his mining customers, Dave is optimistic about tourism in the area, despite the advent of the global financial crisis.
He believes that the lower fuel prices this year as compared to last year will see an increase in domestic tourists that will offset a likely drop in international visitors.
And will Australia be able to ride out the recession?
"If Rudd keeps handing out money, they'll keep spending it here."
