Uranium drilling 'won't affect fauna, flora'
The company exploring for uranium 25 kilometres south of Alice Springs says it is likely to use 1,000 cubic metres of water during its drilling phase.
Cameco was asked to submit the information to the Northern Territory Government as part of its mine management plan.
Drilling of core samples cannot begin at the site until the Government signs off on the plan.
The company's Stephan Stander says it has told the Government what impact the 2009 drilling program is likely to have on the local environment.
"The entire drilling program would use in the region of a thousand cubic metres of water," he said.
"This only represents a very small percentage of the water in the number three dam, from where we would actually source the water from, so as such we're confident that that won't have an impact on any fauna or flora in that region."
The company has received a sacred sites clearance from the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority and hopes to begin drilling within the next two months, pending Government approval.
