Media Release

Greens Senator Scott Ludlam will be in the Northern Territory next week to talk with activists about the adverse impact of the nuclear industry in the Northern Territory, in particular:

* The Angela Pamela uranium mine proposal 20km from Alice Springs
* The potential for a massive expansion of uranium transports through Alice and Darwin from Olympic Dam and a host of Western Australian mines
* The role of Pine Gap in enabling United States nuclear war-fighting capabilities
* The outcomes of the ALP National Conference at which the NT Radioactive Waste Dump will be discussed

On Monday, Senator Ludlam will discuss the proposed Angela Pamela mine with Territorians, along with the transportation of uranium from SA and WA through Alice Springs. He will visit Pine Gap as part of a Parliamentary Delegation on Tuesday.

"I am looking forward to talking to people about the impact the nuclear industry is having in their community," said Senator Ludlam.

"Unfortunately the Federal Government is refusing to consult with people in the Territory about where it's going to dump its nuclear waste. I'm keen to hear their views and will continue to fight for this issue in Canberra."

Senator Ludlam made the comments as the consultation period for the Roxby Uranium mine's EIS moves into its final phase.
