TERRITORY Senator Trish Crossin says she does not know if the nuclear waste dump site would be chosen before the next election.

Senator Crossin said she had not seen the scientific report examining the four locations in the Northern Territory - even though cabinet had been sitting on it since February.

She said Resources Minister Martin Ferguson decided not to make it public and she was "only a backbencher".

Labor went to the last election opposition the construction of a nuclear waste dump in the Territory.

But it is yet to fulfil the promise to repeal the Commonwealth Radioactive Waste Management Act, which allows the Government to force a nuclear dump in the Territory.

Senator Crossin said she often lobbied the minister on this issue, but she warned: "you can't always get what you want."

Even though it was a significant issue in the 2007 election, Senator Crossin could not guarantee it would be resolved by the next election.

"My view is that I think that the legislation should have been repealed before now".

The Federal Government promised to chose the best site for the nuke dump according to the "science".

But the Northern Territory News reported yesterday that the Parson Brinckerhoff report only examined four sites - all in the Northern Territory.

Then Deputy Opposition Leader Julia Gillard promised on December 18, 2006, to reverse John Howard's decision to build a dump in the Territory.

"Labor does not support the Howard Government decision to site a waste dump in the Northern Territory," she said.

Then Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd attacked the CLP during the 2007 campaign for supporting the dump.
