China eyes Aust uranium exploration company
China is positioning itself to benefit from a number of Australia's uranium deposits.
The state-owned China Guangdong Nuclear Power Company is proposing to take over 70 per cent of the Australian exploration company Energy Metals.
The company is searching for uranium in nine locations across the Northern Territory and Western Australia, including the WA Goldfields.
Executive director Lindsay Dudfield says the takeover is worth $12 million.
"With the additional injection of capital the company will be able to spend at a faster rate than it otherwise would of been able to," he said.
"There is still no guarantee that the project will be developed, that will depend on the economics of the project, certainly the ability to fund that additional work is guaranteed."
