Aborigines 'exploited over nuke dump'

Federal Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson has a new bill to handle radio active waste.

Under that bill, no community will be forced into hosting a radio active waste repository, instead the minister says communities can ‘volunteer’ a site.

At the moment, the only ‘volunteered’ site is Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory, but it seems the community is not at all happy with the site’s nomination or in the National Radio Active Waste Management Bill.

Peter Godfrey speaks with Natalie Wasley from the Beyond Nuclear Initiative in Alice Springs, she says the are too many similarities in this bill to the former Howard governments approach to radio active waste.
