D-Day for Ferguson to produce Muckaty waste dump documents
The Senate has ordered the Federal Government to finally release documents relating to the secret contract which paved the way for a radioactive waste dump to be built at Muckaty Station near Tennant Creek.
Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam moved the order which was passed in the Senate two weeks ago, giving Minister Martin Ferguson until 4 pm AEST today to produce.
"Resources Minister Ferguson must immediately table all reports prepared for the previous Howard Government by Parsons Brinkerhoff assessing proposed sites for a waste dump in the Northern Territory," Senator Ludlam said.
"This includes the final report submitted to the department on 18 March 2009 and several peer reviewed reports, which will shed significant light on a process that Labor when in opposition considered to be completely illegitimate.
"I look forward to seeing all these materials which should go a long way to inform the upcoming inquiry," Senator Ludlam concluded.
