Calls for Gillard to dump nuclear waste dump plans

NIRS

The Australian Greens are calling on new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard to dump Federal Labor's plan to impose a nuclear waste dump on the Northern Territory and work towards a consensus on the best possible site.

NT Chief Minister, Paul Henderson has told the media he wants the new PM to review the decision to build a waste dump at Muckaty Station, near Tennant Creek.

Greens Senator, Scott Ludlam says a review would usher in a new, more respectful relationship between Canberra and constitutionally weak Territory.

Senator Ludlum says it would also go some way to repair Federal Labor's battered image in the NT after the party's betrayal of its 2007 election promise.
