Snowdon still against mine
A $100,000 STUDY on the possible effects of the proposed Angela Pamela uranium mine on Alice Springs' drinking water won't stop Lingiari MP Warren Snowdon opposing the mine.
He said the Federal Resources Minister Martin Ferguson has launched a study on the Mereenie Aquifer to advise federal ministers and the public.
Geoscience Australia will carry out the government-funded study.
Mr Ferguson said yesterday: "This study will look at proposed mining and processing methods at Angela, assess the groundwater and hydrogeological characteristics, review baseline information such as water levels and quality, and identify any knowledge gaps.''
Mr Snowdon said he had opposed mining the Angela-Pamela deposit for 30 years.
He said: "Regardless of whether or not it impacts upon the water table, I don't support it.''
