Muckaty Station Nuclear Mediation

NIRS

The Northern Land Council and traditional owners of the Muckaty land trust will enter into mediation over the land council's plan to offer the site for a Federal nuclear waste dump.

The Land Council offered the land with consent of the Ngapa traditional owners when the former Howard government was looking for sites for a nuclear waste facility.

But other clans with connection to the land have challenged the nomination in the Federal Court.

Yesterday both the NLC and clan groups had agreed to enter into mediation.

Lawyer for those opposed to the dump, George Newhouse says it's a good outcome.
