Indigenous Australians call for nuclear dump rethink

Australia Network News

Traditional owners in Australia's Northern Territory say the goverment should rethink its plans for a nuclear waste storage centre in light of the crisis in Japan.

The Australian Governnment is considering building the waste facility at Muckaty Station in Tenant Creek.

The plan has been met with mixed reactions among indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

Mark Chungaloo opposes the plan, saying the area is not suited geographically or spiritually for a nuclear waste site.

"We don't want it there because my father and brother...told me every lie and every sacred site and every water hole and we don't want the waste dump there."
