Anti-nuclear waste dump protest held in Darwin
NIRS
Around 50 people staged a protest outside Parliament House in Darwin yesterday afternoon saying they don't want a nuclear waste storage facility to be built in the Northern Territory.
Traditional owners, environmentalists, and trade unionists called on federal politicians to block a bill before the Senate.
It would allow a storage facility to be built at Muckaty Station north of Tennant Creek.
Lorna Vejo told the crowd she's a traditional owner from the Muckaty Station area and is against a nuclear dump.
"I am a traditional owner of Muckaty, by acceptance to the law and the land and the culture and I say no to Mackaty being used as a dump!"
